Portraits - Pastel Drawings

I enjoy drawing and painting people and I find pastel pencils on paper are a great way to capture individual characteristics found in each child or adult that I draw.

Portraits - Oil Painting

I also enjoy painting portraits in oil. I combine a classical style with modern day subjects. This provides a great richness and depth needed to create the right mood and narrative. This technique requires many layers of paint and can often take two to three months to finish.

Some artists like to surprise their clients with an unveiling at the end of the painting. I like to share the process, especially at the early underpainting stage, to make sure we get the composition right before adding color. Then I add many layers of transparent and opaque layers of paint until the painting comes to life. This is a slow but very rewarding process.

Boats

After spending my childhood summers on an Alaskan commercial fishing boat, I developed a joy of painting boats. I found that many people like to capture the great memories, adventures, and time invested in them.
