Lake Titicaca lies along the boarders of Bolivia and Peru and is one of the world's highest navigable lakes at 12,500 ft above sea level. The largest island in the center is Isla del Sol—the “Island of the Sun”—an ancient holy site believed to be the birthplace of the sun. According to Incan legend, the god Viracocha emerged from the waters of Lake Titicaca and created the sun.
After arriving by boat to the south side of the island, visitors climb up over 200 original Inca steps to reach the main town. Midway through the steep climb I noticed a woman seated on the steps, absorbed in her work. She seemed unbothered by the precarious incline below. The contrast of light, color, and elevation surrounding her was beautiful and captivating.
