Lesotho Rondavel

Lesotho, the small country inside of South Africa, felt very different to the more modern aspects of many parts of South Africa.  

These rondavels—traditional thatched homes—may appear rustic at first, but they are very skillfully designed.  The walls are made from stone, with sand, soil, and cow dung used for the mortar.  This method provides excellent insulation by keeping the interior warm during the winter and cool throughout the summer heat.
