Inca Steps

Lake Titicaca is situated between the boarders of Bolivia and Peru and is one of the world's highest navigable lakes at 12,500 ft above sea level. The largest island in the center of the lake is known as the Isla del Sol, or the "Island of the sun." This is an ancient holy site and believed to be the birthplace of the sun. According to Incan legend, it was here that the bearded god Viracocha emerged from the waters of Lake Titicaca and created the sun.

After arriving by boat to the south side of the island, you have to walk up over 200 steep original Inca steps to reach the main town. Midway through the strenuous climb I looked up and saw this woman sitting on the steps with the sun on her as she worked. She seemed completely unaware of the steep precarious incline below her, and the light and color surrounding her was captivating.
