Mary

I was working as a barista at a very local coffee shop and was a little stuck with what to paint next. One day when I was working behind the busy counter, I paused for a second to look up over at Mary. I loved that she was there, like a loyal friend, reading the paper and enjoying her daily drip with her own favorite coffee cup. I asked her if she minded if I could paint her. She didn't mind at all and I discovered that the table she sat next to was made by her son, a skilled carpenter, who used a local tree for the wood. That cozy corner was a beautiful part of family history and it was a real joy to get to know and paint her.
