Tacking Home

In Southeast Alaska, just south of Mt. Fairweather, you can find one of my dad's favorite fishing grounds, especially after following the salmon run north towards Mt. St. Elias. It is here that signifies the end of a season. During the wee hours of the morning, I watched many sunrises peak over that majestic mountain range and set over the Pacific Ocean, with many sea animals in-between. Despite the stinky, hard work of a fisherman's daughter, I understood how incredibly beautiful and lucky my childhood was. It has prepared me for the gritty determination it takes to become a professional artist.

This painting was painted as a tribute to my parents who finally pulled in the gear and headed south to the many new sunrises and adventures ahead.
